Meeting Update – 19th November

November 23, 2009

A well attended night of magical delights.

The evening got of to a fine start with our special guest Andrew Whiteside from Equity (the performers union).  He came to speak to us about the benefits of membership.  For any performing magician these include Personal Liability insurance (10 Million),  personal props backstage insurance, a fee chasing service for getting your fees from customers who refuse to pay up! and membership of a prestigious organisation.  He discussed how to join (fill in a form and provide evidence of four previous paid engagements and one future on) and pay the fees.  If you pay by direct debit these come to around £8 per month.  If you would like to know more Andrew And his work colleague Nigel can be contacted at :

After Andrew left,  we went on with the show, with cards taking on a life of their own.  I foolishly didn’t take notes during the meeting due to a heavy cold, needless to say many card effects were shown and discussed and we had a good night.

On a side note Roger’s new DVD is available.  It’s called Pentalism and provides a number of effects using different types of Pens.  It’s a great DVD with some great thinking from Roger.  Rogers recent lecture to Psycrets (the British Mystery Performers Society) contained several of the effects on the DVD and was very well received.  The DVD is available from Russell at only £20 pounds.

Don’t forget the Paul Gordon Lecture at the Magic Lounge on Thursday 16th of November, 7.30 pm £10.  More details can be found at Russells magickwords blog (Link is on the righthand side of this webpage).
