Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to help out at this year’s Sheffield Street Magic Festival, which was such a boost for magic in Sheffield last year. There’s plenty of information on Russell’s blog (http://magickwords.wordpress.com/ but I’m sure you knew that!) and on the Sheffield Magicians Facebook page.
If you’ve still to volunteer… there’s always room for more. There will be payment, but as last year it will depend on what cash is left over after paying hire fees, printing, etc.
There are still tickets available for the shows on the Saturday and Sunday evenings, available from Magick. And please help to sell them. If every member could sell just six tickets we’d have a sell-out show at the Library Theatre on Sunday. How many have you sold so far?
On Saturday and Sunday 1 and 2 November there will be magic in the streets around the city centre between 12:30 and 4:00 p.m. Look out for the three Sheffield Street Magic Festival gazebos. The area in front of the Town Hall will be the main focus for the street magic with Barkers Pool and Fargate as secondary sites. Bad weather provisions are being organised.
The gazebo in front of the Town Hall will act as an information centre, so call here to pick up your official lanyards if you’re taking part. But let Russ know in good time if you want one with your photo on! If you still have your official T-Shirt from last year, feel free to wear it!
Two ‘junior magician’ workshops are being on the Saturday afternoon in the Town Hall, which Craig is running (although helpers are welcome!). Times are 1:00 to 2:00 and 3:00 to 4:00. Admission is free by ticket available from the main gazebo/information centre in front of the Town Hall. Numbers are strictly limited.
The Spooky Magic Evening, which will include a Theatrical Seance will be held in The Minstrel’s Chambers in the Town Hall at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday 1st of November. Doors will creak slowly open at 6:30.
Appearing are Ashton Carter, Roger Curzon, John Blackwood plus special guests. Tickets are £8. This presentation is designed for over 16’s only. Due to the nature of the performances latecomers may be refused entry. Please note that this is a traditional parlour style performance and is limited to 50 spectators only. First come…
The stage show will be at Sheffield’s Library Theatre, on Surrey Street, next to the Lyceum, on Sunday 2nd of November 2014. Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
The show will be hosted by Sheffield’s own Steve Faulkner. We have a truly outstanding bill for you: John Archer, Peter Antoniou, Looch, Jared Manley, and Tim Smithies. (Russell will be behind the scenes stage-managing for this lot; should be fun…!)
John Archer, incidentally, was the first to fool Penn & Teller on ITV’s “Penn & Teller – Fool Us” Hosted by Jonathan Ross. He is a former Magic Circle Stage Magician of the Year, and one of the best, funniest magicians around today. But don’t just take my word…
“Booking an act for my Dad’s 70th birthday, I wanted a great act and went straight to John Archer – his reputation in the magic world is among the very best. Hysterically funny, and perfectly pitched for the occasion. He made the evening. I’d recommend him unreservedly.” — Derren Brown – TV Magician and Psychological Illusionist.
“You could put John Archer anywhere and he would KILL an audience.” — Penn Jillette (Penn & Teller).
“One of the Funniest men I know.” Tim Vine – Comedian.
(Bring your notebook, Adam.)
Peter Antoniou — The ‘Psychic’ Comedian — has become known as the enfant terrible of stand-up comedy and side show entertainment, using his unique skills to became an underground sensation and make his exciting live appearances mysterious and memorable. He now presents his remarkable and hilarious live shows internationally for comedy clubs, sell-out theatre audiences and blue chip companies.
Peter has performed his sell-out critically acclaimed show at Rockness, Bestival, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Sheffield Comedy Festival, Leicester Comedy Festival, Southport Comedy Festival, Hull Comedy Festival, The Vault Festival, Leicester Square Theatre, Etcetera Theatre, and he regularly performs across the country at major comedy clubs as both a headliner and an MC.
“Brilliant” – BBC
“Phenon-mentally good” – Kerrang!
“Be afraid – he knows what you’re thinking” — Sheffield Star
