Roddy Mcghie Lecture

July 10, 2022

Andy Taylor and Roddy Mcghie

Roddy Mcghie at the Magick Lounge

At last, on Thursday 7th July we had our first lecture since February 2020. Little did we know then that Looch would be delivering us our last lecture for two and a half years. Even though it was an excellent one, full of magic and ideas, it was too long to wait for Roddy. Well, what an excellent start, Roddy gave us over two and a half hours of magic, ideas, humour and an insight as to how he creates his effects.

In the above picture I would like to say that Roddy is performing a mind reading experiment on our President, Andy Taylor, but unfortunately it is just a bad photograph. Roddy explained many of his creations, TNT, Sticker Kicker, Puzzled and Little Door (his absolute favourite) to name four, there were many more. Thanks Roddy for an excellent lecture.

Shoot Ogawa Lecture: Thursday 29th June

June 22, 2017

Shoot Ogawa, four times Magic Castle Magician of the Year and winner of countless other awards, will be in Sheffield on Thursday 29 June with his new 2017 lecture. His award-winning performances have taken him to over 40 countries, where he has performed both in intimate venues as well as on stage and television.

“Shoot Ogawa is one of the greatest stars of magic. Give him a piece of rope, a few coins or a deck of cards and he will absolutely kill you. His precision, smoothness and talent are really amazing. All I can say is WOW!” — Boris Wild, Magician

Magicians all over the world are inspired and captivated by his skill and creativity. During this lecture he will be sharing new and wonderful stories, routines, and effects that he has been working on over the last five years. Shoot also teaches from 3 new DVDs created just for this lecture.

Shoot will use these new tricks to help you develop a deeper understanding of his personal magic: how he creates tricks, how to be more skillful as a performer (even for beginners), creating the desired “magical feeling” with any trick, what he believes is a “good magician,” and how to control the power of magic.

Shoot’s lecture breaks down magical performance into seven important aspects: Time Line, Miming, Misdirection, Framing, Skill Level, Training, and Organization. This lecture is an important insight into Shoot’s own personal success, experience, and philosophy of magic… something he is willing to share to this degree for the first time.

Shoot will also demonstrate his legendary skill with and explanation of the Ninja Rings with his updated full routine, including new moves! Plus routines with cards, coins, ropes, etc., to suit all levels.

Full of Shoot’s original tricks and legendary skill and creativity, this lecture promises to be both thoroughly entertaining and devastatingly enlightening.  It starts at 7:30 pm on Thursday 29 June at The Magic Lounge, 82 Broad Street, Sheffield, S2 5TG. Doors open at 7:00 pm .  Admission is £5 to Sheffield Circle members, £10 to visiting magicians. You don’t want to miss this!

Andi Gladwin Lecture Wednesday 26th of October

October 23, 2016

We welcome Andi Gladwin for a lecture on Wednesday the 26th of October.

“Andi Gladwin makes events both unbelievable and unforgettable. He is a world-class close-up sleight of hand magician who has performed all over the world at prestigious events such as on the world’s most expensive private yacht over New Year’s Eve, a Las Vegas television special and even in Washington, DC for President Obama’s Inauguration.

“The best magic creates a story,” Andi says, “My aim is for everyone to walk away with a new experience that they will talk about for the rest of their lives.” Those stories have been told by guests at thousands of events over the past decade.

Far from the tackiness or cheesiness often associated with magicians, Andi’s magic is funny, sharp and relies on a lifetime of practice and performing experience. He is a well-dressed, professional magician who has dedicated his entire life to the art.

Andi is equally at home on stage for groups of twenty to one-hundred guests, or while mixing and mingling at cocktail receptions. In either setting, he will interact with your guests and perform amazing miracles just inches from their noses. But each performance is just the start … the stories will live on forever.”

Biography taken from Andi’s website

The lecture will be £5 to SCM members and junior magicians and £10 to non members (all welcome). It will begin at 7:30 pm on Wednesday the 26th of October at the Magic Lounge, 82 Broad Street, Sheffield, S2 5TG

Kyle Marlett Lecture: Thursday 22nd September

September 16, 2016

The Sheffield Circle is looking forward to Kyle Marlett joining us on Thursday the 22nd of September to present his latest lecture.

“Talented, off-beat and charismatic, Kyle Marlett performs mind-blowing illusions with singular flair. From close-up sleights-of-hand to elaborate new twists on classic illusions, Kyle delivers an endearing charm and infectious comedic deadpan whether on the stage, on the street or on camera.

Today, it’s hip to be square and this magician has embraced the “nerd” label and made it a unique, personal hook that appeals to today’s modern audience. Hip to social media, digital content and authenticity, Kyle’s peer group have found his persona appealing, entertaining and aspirational. He’s redefining what it means to be a “nerd” and creating a unique following of his own.

Kyle’s already stacked up televised appearances on The Tonight Show, Syfy’s Wizard Wars, and as a recurring performer on POP’s upcoming Don’t Blink. Whether performing one-on-one with celebrities, filming an impromptu viral video with the latest Vine star, performing for the camera or for a spontaneously-gathered crowd, Kyle commands audiences with poise and an up-for-anything confidence. Kyle spent years honing his craft behind-the-scenes in collaboration with the world’s greatest illusionists and magic acts.

He has conceived, designed and implemented some of the most memorable illusions in Las Vegas, on Broadway’s highest-grossing magic show, on London’s West End, in movies and on television. Now, Kyle offers that peak creativity and trademark style in his new one-man Las Vegas show where he performs dazzling new tricks and delivers never-seen-before illusions. It’s no wonder this rising star was recently voted one of the “Most Interesting People in Las Vegas” by Seven Magazine. And it’s easy to see why a relentless pursuit of astounding magic is his calling card.”
